Often the effects of aging show first in the brow and forehead area as the skin begins to lose its elasticity. If you are beginning to look tired or have an angry look and you are neither, perhaps you are looking older than your years, or the effects of sun and gravity are taking their toll. Whatever the reason, a Brow Lift can give you a fresh new look - or simply restore the look you once had.
Are you a good candidate for a Brow Lift?
A Brow Lift is usually done from 40 on up, however, it may be advisable at an earlier age under certain circumstances. If you are in good health, have realistic expectation and your surgeon determines that your facial structure, the condition of your skin and your hairline are appropriate for a Brow Lift, you will be advised of the technique that is best for you. A Brow Lift may be done in conjunction with Face Lift or Eyelid procedures.
The Brow Lift procedure
The placement of the incision may differ from patient to patient, however, it is placed in or behind the hairline to minimize visible scarring. The Plastic Surgeon will tighten the loose forehead skin, remove the excess skin and, if necessary, remove part of the muscle that causes the vertical frown lines between the brows. Brow Lift surgery not only smoothes the forehead but lifts the eyebrows just enough to give you a youthful look.
Anesthesia for Brow Lift surgery
A Brow Lift typically requires a local anesthetic.
After Brow Lift surgery
There will be some swelling and bruising for a week or so after Brow Lift surgery, even in the eye area. Your Plastic Surgeon will give you complete instructions as to how to expedite your healing. Sutures are usually removed in 7 to 10 days following Brow Lift surgery. The full recovery time is about 2 weeks.
